any thoughts on if we are on our way to a recession....

In my (latest) neck of the woods, a ton of .com companies have done the sidewalk swan dive, but the reality is that most people working in those companies weren't high-tech anyway. I can't believe the number of over-hyped POS companies that were basically nothing more than a website interface to a call center! Frankly I think it's criminal that some of these companies were foisted on the public in IPOs. Absolutely criminal.

Anyway, there is a ton of networking/optics work going on here, and no end to the boom in sight. For the near and midterm future there is more work available than bodies to do it. A LOT more work.

I don't know if residential real estate is a leading or lagging indicator, but a house in my neighborhood just sold for $7 million bucks. Yikes. Ok, so it's two hundred years old etc etc etc, but seven mill is seven mill! Somebody ain't hurting! LOL!

The mood of people I see at work, on the street, in shops, restaurants, whatever, is very upbeat. There is essentially zero unemployment and folks are feeling fat and happy despite the market gyrations.

That said, I spent a lot of my youth in the Pacific Northwest, which in those days meant..."Boeing". With Boeing it seemed everything always looked great until it all went to h*ll in a blink of an eye and 37,000 people get laid off in one day.

I guess what I'm trying to say is things look very, very good, so yeah, I think we may get something that at least resembles a recession. But not until after Xmas.
