Wake up, it's not the left anymore. It's the center. Unless of course you consider environmental protection, womens rights and civil rights left-wing. Then fine. But the fact is that most people believe in those issues. As for shutting down the government I believe you have it turned around. Newt Gingrich was the one responsible for that. Refusing to budget he let the government shut down. Clinton faced him down and won because the people were behind him. Shortly thereafter Newt was no more.
