Chuck,

AMD has delivered on T-Bird, Duron, several chipsets, a new fab, doubled the clock speed, DDR, Mustang development, 0.13u development, MP systems demoed, Hammer development, embedded versions of K6, high density flash.....

Other than that they have really sucked. In the meantime, Intel delivered on i815 and a few recalled or cancelled pieces of junk.

I see your point. (not)

Scumbria

Charles, Re: There are at least two people on this thread who wouldn't pay for anything but a low MHz system (by low I mean relative to what is available in the market at any given point in time.

Thats's why the Duron exists-something for everyone. Have you read reviews of Duron vs. Celeron? No contest, Duron is the obvious choice. Even Sharkey comes to that conclusion (and that is almost unbelieveable). Is it your "read" that these 2 users could not consider AMD in a possible purchase/upgrade? Could other users of similar needs/orientation not consider AMD in upgrade plans?

Re: I would say barring the Athlon AMD has not delivered on much last year (I consider Thunderbird/Duron relatively minor efforts). But that itself was good enough given what the company's valuation was.

Approximately 6 months before I became a stockholder, K6 production problems had shareholder law suits filed the company, Jerry thought problems were fixed, then they weren't. Things were pretty messy and AMD was seen as a bungling incompetent idiot. Compared to those times, AMD is now in hog heaven.

I don't see the Thunderbird/Duron as relatively minor efforts, I consider them the current lifeblood of this company.

I consider the establishment of strong yields at Austin (AL 0.25) as a critical accomplishment.

I consider the establishment of strong yields at Austin (AL 0.18) as a critical accomplishment.

I see the establishment of infastructure (where there was absolutely none) for the new Athlon one year ago as a difficult but critical accomplishment.

I consider the successful completion of Dresden project as a critical accomplishment.

I consider the early recognition of Copper and aquireing/perfecting of the Copper process as a critical accomplishment.

I consider the establishment of Dresden as a strong producer in June of this year (outyielding Austin at times) as a critical accomplishment.

I consider the continued ramp of processor frequency over the last year+ as a critical accomplishment.

I consider the successful move to onboard cache (from slot to socket) as a absolutely critical accomplishment (wasn't k6 production problems related to oboard cache?).

I consider the continued evidence of AMD showing itself to be a reliable supplier as a critical accomplishment to date. That process must continue.

I consider the current ownership of the "top end" as a critical accomplishment.

A little over a year ago a case could be made that AMD was awash in red ink, hopelessly sinking. Maybe not even able to finish Dresden. Somehow AMD has managed to put $1.2 in their cash box since then. This occurred at a during a period when all other major players except one were quitting the game. I consider this quite an AMD accomplishment.

I consider the the successful quarter results since I've become a shareholder and the promises made and kept in each as a critical accomplishment.

I could go on but...These things and many more were all things Jerry and company promised would happen and they all have. There's no question that many things could/should have happened that didn't but that's business and life and an imperfect world. Just look at how things have gone for AMD's big competitor, real hard to have eveything turn as hoped for. I'm pretty impressed with what AMD has accomplished in the last year+, and I hope their accomplishments continue, I'm looking forward to them.

Kindest regards,
CrazyMan

Charles Re..<Barring Athlon, I am hard pressed to comeup with an example of good execution (I am talking about things in production). Can you? <<<<

Sure, !!!! F L A S H !!!! Where are you coming up with all of this garbage. AMD was named by at least 4 companies as the supplier of the year. AMD just announced deals with HP to use flash in all of their products. Also, Nokia and HP just announced pending deals. FASL announced construction of 2 more plants to satisfy demand. Sales increased 16% q-q. Do you need more? And what about !!!! D R E S D E N !!!!. New, state of the art fab, new copper process.

<< Barring Athlon, I am hard pressed to comeup with an example of good execution (I am talking about things in production). Can you? >>

Here's some:
Flash
on-die cache
slot to socket conversion
copper process
Dresden plant opening

What do you consider poorly executed besides Duron infrastructure?
