a symantec tech said simply that some do and some don't (hey! let's all apply for jobs as techs! no special training required, just repeat 100 times, "some do and some don't". then, for extra points, we can work on answers like "because" and the always popular"that doesn't seem right"). at least this time when i rebooted, the defs actually did install. lately the reboot has been highly suspect as the trigger mechanism for dumping me back into the endless liveupdate loop. :) mark
