I have little doubt that AMD can do well. The problem is with their stock. I bought 50@39.50 then another 144@33.75. With AMD stuck at about 22.50 so long I got ticked off and purchased all the shares on margin that I could get. Then I deposited another $1406 in the account and sold the original 194 share I bought at a higher price to bring them into play. Since then I have been selling on a half point move up and buying on a half point move down. I now have 290 shares bought at 22.25, 300 shares bought at 22.375, and 20 shares bought at 22.50, with just $7812 in margin debt. The way I figure this is that I have gained 416 shares at a cost of about $22.16/share. Come Monday I will put in a 22.375 sell order for the 290 shares bought at 22.25 plus 110 shares bought at 22.375, hoping to buy back at a lower price point. My target is to rachet down the prices paid for each of my shares to 21.75 by the time Intel announces their earnings. I will let you know how I do. Assuming that I actually manage to sell at least one time before Intel's quarterly results, but end up not being able to buy back at a lower price, I will have effectively increased my position in AMD by 16 shares at a cost of $18/share. If however, I have guessed right and AMD continues to hover around $22 per share after I have managed to sell at $22.375, I could realize a significantly enhanced position.
