however, i still don't see the manufacturer's part number. for instance, on the windows2000 professional edition carton i have here, the part number is B23-00079

i think you can find such numbers at a software vendor site, like staples.com or buy.com or egghead.com

heck, maybe you don't even need a mfpart#. my thinking was that with so many products upgrades, standalone versions, etc, it would be good to have the mfpart#.
