Maurice. Nice Rant. Politics is necessarily about power and how it is used. Power is necessariy about making people do that which they otherwise would not do. In the US we often exercise power by consensus, by engaging people, by participation, by segments of citizens first ruling and then in turn being ruled. Some people just say that they don't like politics period. Perhaps they say this either because they don't like being told what to do or perhaps they are disgusted to see that political campaigns are usually conducted on two levels--first an emotional, manipulative level that works with some and second a reasoned, intellectual level that works with others. Wasn't it Bismark (who is given credit for uniting the small German states into one country) who said that sausage and laws are two things that it is not so nice to watch being made.

What is clear is that politics will always be with us because it is necessary to get both people and organizations to do that which they might otherwise not do in order for society and its organizatons to take any direction and act in unity.Without politics there would be chaos in the polity.

OK M, you are right. Frankly, I added those words at the last minute to lighten the topic. I have no issue with the other thread and God knows it's a good thing we have it after days of ME discussions here.
