Re: Motorola Q300 CC Notes-- Cell Phone Business and Misc

Jim- I read the Steet.com articles and they seem to not only contradict what he wrote himself, but what was said in the Q300 CC. I didn't want to do a point by point comparison so I'll simply post some of my notes about the cellular business using MOT's words. For some reason<g> I always get the feeling everything that comes out of the Street.com is written with an axe to grind. I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, but IMO, neither is the Street.com writer.

Can anyone shed any light on the HUGE ramp-up(percentage wise) in TDMA sales? Did I make an error or is the 300% gain off a low Q399 quarter?

For Q300:
GSM up 30% y/y and down 9% sequentially
CDMA up 20% y/y and up 25% sequentially
TDMA up 300% y/y and down 10% sequentially
iDEN up 50% y/y and flat sequentially
Analog down 80% yr/yr and down 40% sequentially
Total up 15% y/y and down 5% sequentially

Handset Projections(TAM):
2000 410 to 425 million units
2001 525 to 575 million units

And a couple of other notes of interests:
WAP is not selling well because of lack of applications
MOT's Nextel investment worth $4.7 billion
MOT's Next Level investment worth $4.2 billion
MOT's Broadcom investment worth $1.4 billion
MOT's Other investments worth $2.0 billion

will china's recent agreement to support cdma help mot, or will the benefit be mainly linked to qualcomm?

thanks,
