Rowing took up too much time, three or four hours a day. He'd get home around 7 p.m., and then he had to do homework, as well as eat supper and bathe and all that good stuff. Bedtime is 9:30 because they get up at 6:00 a.m. The school bus leaves at 6:45.

If a person is into swimming they should also run. I know, running tightens the muscles and impedes swimming. My HS was big in swimming and we had several people break records. One cousin set the state record in the 400 freestyle and his brother broke it. A friend set the national record in the 100 butterfly and my girlfriend got a silver in it at the Tokyo Olympics. All had knee and ankle problems later. Not forever but for a few years.
