. I only play the long side now, and this has also helped me realize that longer-term, playing the short side is necessary also.


And by doing so, you will tend to bet less "attached" to any single stock. Perhaps the best way to break longs from being in love with a stock is for them to short that same issue when the markets shift into a decline mode. When you begin to cheer your baby to go down, it breaks off some crusty stuff and frees you to see your baby for what it really is. . . .a stock. . . .a vehicle for making and losing money.
