Read the Vanity Fair article. It details his blow-up with his wife and how she demanded he quit drinking or else she's out the door. Also accounts of abusive drinking not sitting around the fire having a nightcap. I'm not saying he was a total lush but he had a problem. A few drinks around the fireplace is not a problem. You sugar-coat too much, my friend. Bush also has a temper. When he got drunk he got fighting mad a lot of times. He was not a plesant drinker.
