well, I believe for that kind of money they are promising a complete supply-chain solution, aka "supplier side" - this is fulfillment which includes some std industry transactions like RMA, hub and spoke distribution, 3-way match etc. These are the old things we did in erp, but I suppose the promise here is you can do these things outside your enterprise and still have all the documents match up. It sounds good on paper... my experience is business will pay for this, its cost effective even at 30mm$$ implementation fees.... the gotcha is whether ariba can deliver.

I2 does all this but they have some additional software - one is called the "demand planner" which helps you decide when/who to buy from, so i2 is a little more than what ariba does.

I was negative on i2 for a while though because I thought arba was moving in. However I want to see some supply side implementations from ariba that work.
