Ray this is another site about the Templers

Within two centuries they had become powerful enough to
defy all but the Papal throne. Feared as warriors, respected
for their charity and sought out for their wealth, there is no doubt that the Templar knights
were the key players of the monastic fighting orders. Due to their vast wealth and surplus
of materials the Templars essentially invented banking, as we know it. The church forbade
the lending of money for interest, which they called usury. The Templars, being the clever
sort they were, changed the manner in which loans were paid and were able to skirt the
issue and finance even kings.

In a nutshell they were able to control the Holly Land and build many fortresses which ruins are around the perimeter of their reign in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan etc.

During their rein historians asume that over 2.5 million Christians were living within the border of the today's Israel and part of Lebanon.

They converted the Temple Mount into a Big Church, and 150 years later the Arabs were able to recapture part Jerusalem by signing treaties with the Christians, giving them false sense of peace and then slowly encroaching around Jerusalem. The final move was that the Arabs secretly tunneled their way into the city beneath the ancient walls

This event started their tragic demise, and most of them ended being killed by the order of the French King Phillip for the power and wealth they accumulated over the years.

In many ways the Templer Order reminds me of the establishment of modern Israel and it is my opinion that if Israel will lose the control over Jerusalem they will follow the Templars history.

I think the arabs believe in the same issues and that is why the control over Jerusalem is so important.

Arafat is in a position that he will dissapear in obscurity or even assasinated by his fellow countrymen if he will not gain control over Jerusalem, therefore he has nothing to lose if a war will start in the ME.
