Sarmad -

I also noticed Mr. Nebbia's article on Yahoo. I hope it is true. Niceg, the man that posted the article does a lot of research and comes up with good stuff. However, I do not remember hearing anything from Mr. Nebbia, Commodity Manager.

If the shortages are real and if they last long enough to impact us, I am sure we will see them in our retail samples. Prices in the retail samples have performed very well at 20gb and below but IMHO shortages would give us more in the way of price increases. Drive shortages may occur first in the smaller retailers that carry less inventory. Also it is possible shortage rumors could cause some hoarding resulting in shortages at a lower level. I expect we will see shortages in the form of pricing if they last.

Some of the comments in the article do not sound convincing. Maxtor has not purchased HDD yet but if they had some control why would they freeze supply in Asia. Maxtor announced it would be weeks before they knew what efficiencies they could implement and 18 months before they completed the changes. I can't imagine them changing distribution at this point.

Regards,
Mark
