Fast track is clearly an oxymoronic reference to our government's breathless progress.... <w> Of note, the 700Mhz spectrum auction has been pushed back indefinitely, or at least until mid 2001, and seems to be getting set up to re-configured for something other than 3G applications. This is actually a fairly wise decision, in view of the reduced bandwidth capability in this spectrum range as opposed to the higher frequencies cited as the targets of the CEA/FCC deliberations. As far as DoD is concerned, I'd love to be a fly on the wall listening to their best negotiators 'working' the civilian side of the house. The classsic notice that they'd co-operate.... within the confines of national security, is about as broad a brush of obstructionism as we're likely to get from the public announcements. The closed door sessions will certainly be interesting. Longstanding turf battles are about to be re-fought. I think the saving grace may well be the technological advances being made in InP among other exotic semiconductor materials. Wherein comms devices in the 65 Gbps and above range are just now becoming practical. Re: Does anyone care to guess how long it will take to complete this process? If by 'this process' you mean having working commercial 3G networks in the US, I'd say no sooner than 2004. I've heard and read just way too much vaporware and slideware that hasn't come to fruition on schedule to believe otherwise. :) Are there investments one should make today to capitalize on the trend. I wouldn't think there is any rush......... JMHO, Ray
