Not that future quote means anything, but NASDAQ future
is currently 64 point above the its fair value. Looks

Those who did such hedging in the gld mkts would have done well. I also understand that gold producers like to get paid more for their product than the cost of production. So some of them have just given up, if only temporarily (hopefully).
