My example was contrived to show the possibility that counting worthless contracts might not lead to the same point as minimizing value, but I just checked the count on QQQ that gives the MaxPain at 84 by $Value and I see that by contract count the peak is at 76 with 283,313 of 445,282 expiring worthless, with a secondary peak at 90, with 273,146 contracts expiring worthless. The range between 76 and 90 is relatively flat with the lowest point of 253,414 at 81.

1st half hour volume on COMPX notably higher today than yesterdays (380 v 353)

however, NYSE volume is lower (179 v 189)
