Frederick - Here's my humble opinion. There were and are 2 camps at NOVL - one which sees the future as being infrastructure, one which can not let go of the thinking and base technology which made NOVL successful in the past. This lead to decisions that kept great technologies like NDS and the caching products from achieving the acceptance they deserved, because potential partners and customers were faced with having to accept the linkages to those older technologies in order to get on the bus. It's easy to be a monday morning quarterback and clearly NOVL needed (and needs) to keep making money while they change the model. But IMO the cut line was WAY too far on the side of protecting existing thinking, technology and the political interests of the people whose power base was in that older space at the expense of newer stuff with less current revenue but much more promise.
