Actually, if I recall correctly eating meat on Friday was a venial (equivalent to a misdemeanor) sin, so purgatory for some finite amount of time, perhaps a few millenia per unconfessed transgression would have been the worst case. I still recall when the pope said it was ok to eat meat on Friday...I hated fish. I'm sure those in purgatory on a 'Friday meat rap' got amnesty at the same time.
