Duisentwit admonishes Somewheres to change his mantra:

FRANKFURT ( MktNews ) - European Central Bank ( ECB ) President Wim Duisenberg asked U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers to rephrase the U.S. mantra that it wants a strong dollar, according to an article Monday in the UK's daily Times newspaper.

In an interview that touched on the September 22 joint intervention by the ECB, the U.S. Federal Reserve, the Bank of Japan and other central banks, Duisenberg said: "I said to Larry Summers: 'Couldn't you say that the strong dollar is in the interest of the United States, but an ever-strengthening dollar is neither in the interest of the United States nor in the interest of Europe?' ... He said: 'I'll think about it.'"
