Russ - I've seen this article on GPM - which I've abandoned BTW - and I wonder if his assertions are in any way correct - or to put it bluntly dead wrong as to facts. As I see it the trouble here - and with this sort of comment in general - is that people make these statements without challenge - and because they are published they have the sniff of truth. There used to be some people posting on this thread who were extremely knowledgeable about hedging - no more alas. I don't know whether it is feasable or whether there would be suficient interest on Barrick's part - but it would be interesting and instructive for the CFO - or better still the person heading up the hedging group - to make a point by point rebuttal of these statements. Actually, in spite of what you say i'm not sure if his remarks are directed specifically at Barrick who he gives some kudos for buying protective calls. I fear that it's a case of the blind leading the blind - or 'in the land of the blind the one eyed man being king'
