Dan,

<Touchy, touchy. For Itanic to be years ahead of AMD's offering, the k8 would have to slip by at least a year. >

Assuming Itanic ships, that is.

<Want to place any bets on that? Of course, this is assuming the Itanic ever gets out of its current permanent pilot production state.>

Once upon a time the only problem Merced had was MHz but those were the good old days. Merced folks want those days back. I gather that bugs galore and it is not close to productization. In the meantime McKinley is expected to tapeout in November - making it a Q4 2001 or Q1 2002 candidate.

Daniel,

RE: Sort of a silly thing to argue about, because 64 bit processors have been around a long time. Dirk Meyer had a hand in designing one that worked pretty well before he went on to
the K7. Intel had plenty of people working on the Merced back then too, and look where it's got them.

Just keep throwing stones out of the glass house, though, Eric. Probably gets a little stuffy in there, with all the Paul Excel types around. Better ventilation might help

Silly?

Silicon vs paper and you keep telling me the Itanium is late. Pretty silly Daniel, Intel may be in a glass house, but AMD has no clothes.
