15:44 ET Novellus Systems (NVLS) 36 -4 1/2: -- Update -- Briefing.com called the CFO's office at Novellus, where a spokeswoman told us that the press release circulating is a "fake." We would note, however, that the press release did not appear in a chat room -- it was on the Novellus website. We would further note that the release revealed EPS of $0.62, better than the $0.61 estimate. Revenues, however, were light at $326 mln relative to estimates of $360-365 mln. We would emphasize that we do not know if the press release is fake or real, but if it's a fake, that means that either someone hacked into the Novellus website or that Novellus inadvertently posted an incorrect release. If it was a hacker, that hacker also had the subtlety to have the company beat earnings but miss revenues. Those are the facts; you be the judge.
