Always feels a lot better when you understand the competition, and what you call "the position on the investment ladder".

BTW, on my personal "gratitude and esteem" ladder, your views may be humble, but are in no way lowly :)

pirate, Thanks for your update on the Veritas appliance. I'd read it was in development in a Merrill Lynch report earlier this year. The report said it had a Q4 2000 estimated ship date. It had little more to say other than the appliance was planned to go head-to-head against NTAP. Thanks for adding more details.

It appears that VRTS is using their strength in storage software to go after the "gold rush" of the appliance market. They will probably gain some OEM hardware business just as Procom did with HWP.

They are one to watch although I think NTAP's competitive advantage is intact.
