I'm living in a land of delusions with a near 45% organic growth rate (SUNW). I'm living in a land of delusion running a free computer operating system that is exponentially more reliable, empowering, and available, remotely as well as locally; open, standards driven; the very thing that this great common network itself runs on -- all free. Free beer, free speech, free to be you and me free. And it goes back farther than your 1985 DOS XT context. --- What sodtware does the great majority of the network run on? Apache. Is Apache sucky? Apparently not. Has the great Redmond borg been able to put anything better together? No. --- You run Internet Explorer (for free). Why? It's a value add to the OS for MS, in the same way that all other free software is a value add for Sun and the hardware manufacturers. Unfortunately for MS, they only make a mouse. And the software for that is free (drivers). --- You're watching a paradigm change before your eyes and going into denial over it? It's one thing for Bill Gates to do that. It's an ego thing with him. He has his billions. What is it with you? --- The internet is free software. They're one in the same. It's the end of Bill Gates. The PC has saturated. The 80's are over. msft doesn't write good software... it's actually quite abysmal in several respects. on the other hand it simply doesn't suck as badly as everything else (mac, corel, etc). Actually, inprise has always had better tools, which is kind of strange seeing as how they've never had access to the windows apis. linux is another matter... msft never did have alt-f2. linux rocks just from that aspect alone. if and when kylix comes out msft will be in some serious trouble in the pc software space. andy andy
