ANADIGICS Introduces PicoTuner at Broadband Cable Expo in London
Industry's First Fully Integrated DOCSIS RF Data Tuner requires no external components
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2000-- ANADIGICS (Nasdaq: ANAD - news), a leading supplier of wireless and broadband communications solutions, today introduced the highest integrated single package dual conversion RF data tuner that drastically simplifies cable modem design. The AIT1000M6 PicoTuner(TM) from ANADIGICS delivers Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) performance while eliminating the need for up to 50 off-chip components required by other recently announced IC-based tuner designs.

``This fully integrated data tuner is a significant new product for ANADIGICS and the industry,'' said Dr. Bami Bastani, President & CEO ANADIGICS. ``enabling ANADIGICS to grow share in our Broadband access markets and address new emerging markets including IP telephony and digital TV devices. There have been many single chip tuner announcements this year, however ANADIGICS PicoTunerTM is the only true fully integrated tuner in the world, requiring no external components. This product provides cable modem and set-top box manufacturers with ease of use, price to performance, and time to market that is unmatched by any competitive solution available today.''

The 22mm x 22mm device is manufactured using gallium arsenide (GaAs) and silicon CMOS technologies and integrates upconverter, downconverter, dual synthesizer, surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) filter, varactor, DC-to-DC converter, input filter, tuning circuitry, and all of the passive components required of an RF data tuner front end. No external components are required. The AIT1000M6 PicoTunerTM is a single-chip drop-in alternative to current bulky single conversion tuner boxes and IC-based double conversion tuner solutions. Pico TunerTM reduces manufacturing and design time by eliminating the need for up to 50 additional components and can be mounted on the printed circuit board with standard surface mount pick and place equipment.

``Our cable modem and set top box customers require a highly-integrated, off-the-shelf solution that offers advantages in terms of cost, performance, time to market, and board real estate,'' remarked Ron Michels, Vice President of Cable & Broadcast Products at ANADIGICS, Inc. ``The PicoTuner(TM) is a compelling economic solution, offering double conversion performance at a lower price than single conversion or IC-based solutions. In addition, its advanced platform enables next-generation Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) applications.''

The +5 VDC PicoTuner(TM) is already rated for the industrial operating temperature range required for VoIP gateway devices. Future devices in the family will be rated for +3.3 VDC with power dissipation below 750 mW, and will be optimized for all the major tuner platforms such as IP telephony, digital television (DTV), terrestrial TV receivers, VCR, and CATV set top boxes. Offering the high performance associated with double-conversion designs, the AIT1000M6 PicoTuner(TM) features an 8.5-dB typical noise figure. In addition, the excellent dynamic range and distortion characteristics of the PicoTuner(TM) meet the requirements of a demanding Cable Modem environment.

The devices are manufactured at the Company's state-of-the-art facility in New Jersey and are 100% tested before shipping. ANADIGICS PicoTunerTM is priced under $10 in quantities of 10,000 units. Samples are available in limited quantities. For additional information, contact ANADIGICS by phone (908) 668-5000 or FAX (908) 668-5132.

FWIW: CY is on my Bluetooth watch list along with ANAD, ATML, PRTH and SAWS. My memory does not span more than a couple of days so I can't really tell you why it is on the list.<g>
