Hi Jim,

We had a black out here a few nights ago as well. A car had a utility pole interaction. At the time, I was using my cordless phone to chat with my sister down in San Diego. The phone went dead, TV went kaput and the UPS I'd just replaced for the 'puter proved to be not up to the task.
I didn't get to the radio til I got to the car, but in the meantime, I simply went to the other phone, the one that Ma Bell powers up from the CO, and picked up my conversation as if nothing had happened. Except it was all the more lovely for the candlelight. :)

Jim, you are pretty clever to have gotten lost in Malibu instead of Compton. My hat's off to you on choices of places to be out of place in. :) You've suggested several possible reasons that mobile devices may serve a need in a situation where you are in unfamilar turf. However, about this addiction/withdrawl syndrome you suffer regarding the stock market, ahem..... is Gambler's Anonymous one of the links available on these new gizmos? <vbg>

Re: the AT&T post - Did they find this guy in central casting? I recall one poster on the IRID thread who was almost as thoroughly enthusiastic about that wonderful device. ;)

Best, Ray
