Many would disagree with the article you cite. The statement that the service bogged down with increasing numbers of users is an obvious one, but brings up a problem that the company should have known about BEFORE starting service. Every internet service provider needs to fulfill customer expectations. They need to provide a certain bandwidth minimum per sub, and this firm did not have that ability. DirecPC is another great example where a sat internet provider does not deliver as promised. If you exceed their preset download limits, you are punished with reduced bandwidth. That is not acceptable.

As to a dial up return path being a factor, that will change as Starband and the other two way services come out.

The GEO delay is an issue only for games and videoconferencing. Those are not apps for GEO satellite.

All in all, satellite internet can work if you fulfill customer expectations.
