Gangs would dispute your interpretation of why their groups were formed.

They would say that they did it protect themselves and their neighborhoods from rival gangs who are violent and committing crimes against them.

But I find it interesting that are suddenly finding yourself the final arbiter of who qualifies under hate crime legislation.

And it is indicative of the needless confusion that such legislation would create, since I'm sure we all don't think as you do.

A violent crime is a violent crime. Everyone has equal rights to protection under the law. Making some kinds of crimes more special negates that equality.

Whether someone is killed as a result of being in the crossfire of a anti-gay, drive-by shooting, or were actually the target of that drive-by, both victims are just as dead.

And they have a right to expect the law to treat their victimization equally under the law.
