Don't know who you were posting to, but I can add a couple of others:

1. While I was a student in Massachusetts, living on a student's budget, a woman standing at the grocery checkout in front of me was wearing a real fur coat, in original-owner condition (not thrift shop), buying caviar and other gourmet "staples" with food stamps.

2. I know a well-to-do son and heir of a liberal, deceased civil rights attorney. This wastrel son, college educated, sells ski equipment in winter, which is o.k., but then goes on unemployment during the summer. He is an outspoken liberal, and takes pride in his liberalism. His equally well-to-do and outspoken liberal friends just love him -- and hate Republicans, never missing an opportunity to publicly express their hate and contempt.

Of course, these people kind of sound like many Democrat members of Congress and Al Gore, don't they?

He told me he has had people pay for stuffed-lobster tails -- $27.00 lb -- with FOOD STAMPS.

Oh yeah!! You can go down to S.W Wash DC and visit the local fish market there... They OPENLY advertise that they accept food stamps, whether it be for Lobster, Maryland Blue Crabs, or those $17/pound jumbo shrimp...

And there is an extensive black market that has operated for years off of food stamps in the nation's capital. Most are readily available at a discount to their exchange value in cash (can't buy booze with them)

As for the unemployment issue, I'm not so sure about that since he is paying into the unemployment system and much construction work is seasonal and I'm sure he's not living high on the hog on those kinds of benefits.

However, I would be upset about the fact that when you're receiving unemployment, you are obligated to send in the proper forms denoting that you have attempted to seek work during that period of time. And unemployment benefits normally require 6 weeks to commence, thus providing him only some 2 1/2 months of actual monetary payments.

But I understand where you're coming from...
