SAP was a bitch to install and make work..... Lizzie is correct in that software and automation are an order of magnitude better today than they were a couple years ago. Further to that the benfits derived from this automation were not understood or realized two years ago.

i2 is credited with "inventing" supply chain management at Dell in 1997-98 timeframe. Of course sap co-opted the term and tried to say they do the same - untrue, as compaq will surely attest. As far as R2 from sap doing supply chain management in the 1980's? No way, there was no chain. They did MRP, (manufacturing resource planning), maybe thats what you are thinking about.
