Intel is very cautious on Q4 guidance, they learned from Q3. That is good. Very good for MSFT considering the price war in place.

As per CT's comment on flat units. It is flat from last Q, but grew about 20% yr over yr. AMD had 50% growth, Via had 100+%.

"Microprocessor unit shipments were approximately flat with the second quarter."

The market is growing by 15%. Even if we assume monopoly, MSFT's revenues can't grow by more than 7% because less than 50% revenues come from OS. However, the server business growth may offer some hope for MSFT.

INTC now up only .75 after market.

EDIT:``We think again it could be a good, solid quarter but certainly we're not forecasting a blowout,'' said Intel's Chief Financial Officer Andy Bryant in an interview.

Intel said it expects fourth-quarter sales to rise 4 percent to 8 percent from the third quarter, which Bryant said is a bit less historically than sequential sales growth rates in the fourth quarter from the third.

From the article you posted.

<< Although technology stocks have been relentlessly hammered in recent weeks, the PC market is not shrinking. In fact, annual unit shipments of PCs continue to grow around 15 percent. >>

This is in stark contrast to the 'PC is dead' theme we hear from the SUNW shills on a daily basis.
