Just wishful thinking here, but maybe McGinn has such a compelling plan to recover, that the board are willing to give him a chance to try it out.

If I were him, and I was ABSOLUTELY SURE that I could pull it off, I might fight to stay on also. A CEO that just walks away is saying that he doesn't really think he can fix it.

McGinn's options are not worth much right now. He would be crazy to hold on just for those if he didnt think he could raise share value in some reasonable time.

Maybe he simply doesnt want to be remembered as the man who rode LU down. "I'm no quiter," he might be mumbling to his friends, without a clue as to how to fix things.

Or it could all just be about ego, the captain wants to go down with his ship :-)
