INTC CFO:"We think again it [Q4] could be a good, solid quarter but certainly we're not forecasting a blowout"
Intel was hampered in the quarter by lower-than-expected growth, particularly in Europe and also, analysts have said, by market share gains by its scrappy rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc.(NYSE:AMD - news). There are also concerns about the lack of pick-up ahead of the seasonally strong fourth quarter.

``We think again it could be a good, solid quarter but certainly we're not forecasting a blowout,'' said Intel's Chief Financial Officer Andy Bryant in an interview.

Intel said it expects fourth-quarter sales to rise 4 percent to 8 percent from the third quarter, which Bryant said is a bit less historically than sequential sales growth rates in the fourth quarter from the third.

Still, the results will likely please investors if only because expectations had been lowered and Intel confirmed that what has always been the case in the fourth quarter will again be the case this year: that the holiday season will boost sales, analysts said.

``Predictably, they are guiding up for revenues in the fourth quarter but in the context of all the negativism surrounding Intel that will cause investors to breathe a sigh of relief tomorrow,'' said Drew Peck, an analyst at SG Cowen & Co.

Re: "One might be inclined to think a fairly significant relative realignment of share prices of these 2 companies awaits us in Q4, based on the ratios, ratios that seem to be growing by the quarter in favour of AMD... "

I don't care what One Might Be Inclined to think - AMD beat Intel to $18 - on the way down !!!

If you think that favours AMD, all I can say is "It Figgers !"
