Intel made the tactical mistake of counting on AMD to screw up, and that threw their own timetables out of whack

Well, one reason to discuss the minutia of the technology is because that is often the only real thing there is to discuss that makes sense. I think that Intel will have trouble responding as you state because of the long lead times in the industry. Assuming you have a validated design in hand, and the equipment to produce it, it still takes a whole quarter from wafer starts to packaged processors. I don't think that Intel was really taking AMD seriously until very recently, say late in Q2 at the earliest. I strongly believe that Intel made the tactical mistake of counting on AMD to screw up, and that threw their own timetables out of whack. As I have stated before, Intel has some great and talented people working for them, but they aren't the ones making decisions.

As far as why AMD stock has done so poorly, as you imply, their history stands in their way. Now the upside to depending on historical performance, is that it is very often correct. The downside is "past performance does not guarantee future returns" as the disclaimer goes. I believe that AMD has a good opportunity to flip things on Intel, you do not. So be it.

For what it is worth, I am shocked that Intel has fallen so far. I didn't invest in them because I saw their potential for large growth to be limited, I did not foresee them having the problems they have now. I don't think anyone would have predicted the way the past 18 months have gone for Intel, it is not something that any reasonable person would have guessed.

Chuck re:Peck:"Predictably, they are guiding up for revenues in the fourth quarter but in the context of all the negativism surrounding Intel that will cause investors to breathe a sigh of relief tomorrow"

Yea, right, like he really thought Intel would be predicting a revenue decline for Q4! LOL, what an idiot.
