Venture; DataPlay Japan to Sell and Distribute DataPlay

BOULDER, Colo. & TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 2000--DataPlay,
Inc. today announced the formation of a joint venture with Japanese electronics
manufacturer Toshiba for sales, marketing, and customer support of DataPlay digital
media throughout Japan and Asia, excluding Korea.
DataPlay, Inc. is the developer of DataPlay recordable 500MB digital media and
matchbook-sized micro-optical engines.
Based in Tokyo, Japan, the newly formed company is being named DataPlay Japan,
Inc. DataPlay Japan will have sales, marketing and customer support responsibilities
for digital media across the Pacific Rim. This includes not only consumer sales of
digital media, but OEM manufacturing licenses for DataPlay's micro-optical engine. In
addition, the Company will handle the e-commerce side of DataPlay digital media in
Asia, which includes both an e-commerce store and the enabling of secondary content.
The companies expect that DataPlay's digital media technology will be incorporated
into devices that span the music, computing, wireless, gaming, e-book and imaging
segments.
