I think IBM's price fluctuations are more significant than most tech stocks because it is a component of the 30 Dow Industrial Average stocks. So a big move in IBM will mean a move in the Dow. And J6P looks at the Dow as a proxy for the market as a whole. It doesn't affect the "real world" but it affects investor sentiment, which translates into the real world by and by.
