I think the bulls were simply shaken out of their sell off induced stupor when they saw green on their screens for the first time in a week and had a Pavlovian response to hit the buy button.

Plenty of booked orders to sell above, still are....if it'll just come back a little I promise I'll sell it and never go back orders.

I would surmise that that is where the shorts entered the game , covering, not on the opening. The shorts were doing fine, with a good strong wind at their back. In the afternoon , they capitulated in disbelief of their own brain. That would be my take , anyway.

Actually the block trades uptick vol vs downtick vol turned positive at the open but turned negative at 12:00 based on my data.
