Dan, <otherwise Intel will be selling those new FABs to AMD at a loss.>

Do you actually base investment decisions on such wild fantasies?

Lewinsky-Dan - Re: "P4 better have decent IPC and scale as promised (and work) "

Guess what?

Your AMDroid buddy says MHz Sells !!!

Does AMD publish their IPC numbers ?

Didn't think so.

As long as Intel's Pentium 4 WORKS properly, runs at 1.4 GHz and equals AMD's highest GHz CPU in most benchmarks - and kicks the ThumperTurd's ass around the block on a few others - the Pentium 4 will do just fine.

Your problem, Monica, will be evident when Intel reveals just how fast - in GHz - the Pentium 4 really goes.

And remember this - the 1.4 GHz - and 1.7 GHz Pentium 4 for early next year - will all be done on an aluminum process - with NO BENEFIT of copper metallization.

Ask yourself this, Danny Boy - if the Pentium 4 hits 1.7 GHz on an Aluminum/0.18 Micron process, just what will it do when it is running in one of those FOUR NEW FABS on an All Copper/0.13 micron process?

Something for you to think about, Monica.

Paul

Monica - re: "otherwise Intel will be selling those new FABs to AMD at a loss."

Even if Intel sold them at a loss, AMD still couldn't afford them.
