NTAP--Network Appliance and Sybase Provide Integrated Solution for Database Environments
NetApp® Storage Appliances Deliver Simplicity, Manageability, and Business Continuance for Adaptive Server Enterprise With Performance Equivalent to That of Raw Devices
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2000-- Network Appliance (Nasdaq:NTAP - news), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, and Sybase, Inc. (Nasdaq:SYBS - news), a premier supplier of e-Business solutions, today announced certification and support of NetApp storage appliances (filers) in Sybase® Adaptive Server® Enterprise (ASE) environments.

The integrated Network Appliance and Sybase solution combines the simplicity and power of NetApp storage solutions with ASE's ability to meet the demanding database requirements of Internet and traditional, mission-critical OLTP and DSS applications. The synergy between Network Appliance and Sybase products delivers a quantum leap in meeting customer demand for storage consolidation, scalability, performance, manageability, availability, and productivity.

In a joint effort, Sybase and Network Appliance performed certification of NetApp and ASE using the QuaSR test suite on ASE with the Solaris®, HP/UX, IBM® AIX, Windows NT®, and Linux® operating systems and the NetApp filer. To help ensure business continuity, testing included special emphasis on data integrity, system reliability, and server and filer stability, including subjecting the configuration to power outage and power supply takeover scenarios. Certification has been completed for ASE 11.9.2.3 and ASE 12.0 or higher sub releases.

``Strengthening our relationship with Network Appliance is a winning proposition for both companies and more importantly our customers,'' said Billy Ho, Vice President Engineering, Sybase Enterprise Solutions Division. ``The Network Appliance(TM) filer is ready out of the box for a Sybase configuration without the need to customize ASE or the supported operating systems. This allows our customers to quickly and easily implement ASE on Network Appliance storage. Furthermore, the filer offers the combination of file system manageability and the performance and integrity of raw devices.''

``Together with Sybase, Network Appliance takes another major step in expanding its leadership in delivering storage and data management solutions for enterprise, Internet, and database environments. We are excited about this collaboration, and look forward to mutual success meeting our customers' needs,'' said Mark Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance.
