This just in from Option Investor....

The markets are looking bad for the open today. The earnings hit by IBM last night has translated into a -$16 drop in premarket trading which equates to over -80 Dow points. Prudential, Goldman Sachs and DB Alex Brown all downgraded IBM this morning. Intel was downgraded buy two analysts this morning also and is expected to be a drag on the Dow as well as the Nasdaq.

The big news this morning is the huge earnings miss by Chase. Announcing earnings this morning of only $.68 when analysts were expecting $.92 was a real shocker. This will impact Dow component JPM which Chase is buying. Chase said drops in the stock prices of publicly held securities was the major cause. JPM is down -13 in premarket which equates to over -65 Dow points.

Violence flared again in the Middle East, oil inventories dropped yet again in the U.S. and oil prices are spiking again.
