Here is the original press release on Phil Thomas: ALLIANCE SEMICONDUCTOR ANNOUNCES COMMUNICATIONS PRODUCTS DIVISION; PHIL THOMAS NAMED AS VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER SANTA CLARA, California - July 17, 2000 - Alliance Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: ALSC) today announced that Phil Thomas has joined the Company as Vice President and General Manager of the newly created Communications Products Division. Mr. Thomas joins Alliance from Hitachi Semiconductor (America), Inc. where he was Senior Vice President responsible for Strategic Global Initiatives including the establishment of a new business unit whose focus was in developing semiconductor solutions for the networking systems market. N. Damodar Reddy, the Company's Chairman, President and CEO, said, "We are announcing plans to form a Communications Products Division, whose focus will be addressing the explosive demands of the networking equipment market for advanced semiconductor solutions. These demands are being driven by market forces such as growing Internet and consolidated access, telecommunications deregulation, new services deployment, and technology consumerization. We hope to be aggressively building capability to deliver these solutions by leveraging our stand-alone and embedded memory technology. We believe this can be accomplished through internal growth, and by gaining access to additional talent, technology, and products, by partnering with other companies, incubating and investing in (through our venture group, Alliance Ventures) new companies, and possibly by acquiring other companies. The solutions we are planning to provide should enable the accelerated development and deployment of leading-edge products ranging from network access equipment to routers and switches to high speed optical transmission." Mr. Reddy also said, "We will also continue to focus on the development of high performance memory and memory intensive products including SRAMs, DRAMs, flash memory and embedded memory and logic products primarily targeted at the networking, telecommunications, instrumentation and consumer markets." He brings over twenty years of engineering and marketing experience in the networking and telecommunication systems areas to Alliance, including his position at Cisco Systems, where he was responsible for the development and marketing Cisco's first high-end dial access server, as well as a number of senior management positions in divisions of AT&T focused on network access and premises products including Chief Technical Officer, Director of Architecture, Director of Marketing and Director of Engineering." .....
