G,

Does anyone still doubt this is analyst manipulation when industry leaders strongly disagree with them?

I used to have my doubts, but when a firm downdrages stocks which are already down 75% from their highs and industry analysts and semi execs say there is no downturn(in fact quite the opposite), I seriously must question the objectivity of analyst research, to stat it mildly.

In times of turmoil like these its best to have a plan "B" in the wings. All this talk about about cycles got me thinking that if I didn't do some something constructive with my portfolio I could end up riding a bi-cycle right here in Western Colorado.

Selling my semi holdings at this point just does not make sense. If I was too dumb to sell 25 points ago, I'm just not smart enough to sell now. Besides most of my holdings just don't have another 25 points under them. So I gotta believe that the wurst is over.

So Here's plan B. I'll give an example of three stocks, where this would work.

Take CYMER which closed at 18 1/4, VSEA which closed at 21 1/32, and CMOS which closed at 16 7/16.

Write Nov. covered calls against part of your position. With CYMI the Nov 25's are at 1 15/16 bid, CMOS Nov 25's are at 1, and VSEA the Nov 25's are at 1 15/16 while to the NOv. 30's are 1 1/8.

Each of these stocks would have to appreciate about 50% to effect a call out at at the quoted premium. There are 22 trading days left till the Nov options expiration. Not a bad deal at all.

By reading the messages of previous posters I gather that many of you have positions that are slightly under water. Well Covered calls are one way out.
