John, thanks for the Gartner Group top ten list of companies re comm IC sales. With that revenue base and the yearly growth numbers we're hearing, it's getting significant.

Thanks for the details John,

I appreciate knowing Intel is doing in this area.

I would love someone to compare sales & growth rate of all the big players.

Maybe the market is big enough for all, and lots of players can do right

take care & thanks
jean

Hi John, why is Intel only growing at 50% (per Intel's PR) whereas Broadcom ($1B company) & PMC-Sierra have expected growth rates of 100%?

i.e. Why is Intel growing significantly less than its competitors?

What are the issues? Is there some type of standards deployment issue that is lagging sales over market growth?

Is this why Intel is investing in deploying Intel's standards? If so, this is good, but do you when equivalent deployment rates will happen between Intel and its competitors? I imagine it takes about 1.5 years between funding and serious levels of equipment deployment. Meanwhile, Broadcom is growing at 100%. Makes me a tad nervous. Any words to soothe?

Regards,
Amy J

John - Re: "Now that earnings are out I can address your questions a bit. Gartner Group released a report in August 2000 that listed comm IC companies by size. "

Thanks for that "insight" into the Communications segment of Intel's business.
