Not even close!!!

"Gee husband and wife works together to build up a farm, wife dies. Government comes in and hands a large tax bill to the hubby (who I might add already paid tax on everything he owns once) and you end up with a sale to pay the government tax bill."

If one spouse leaves everything to the surviving spouse, there can NEVER be any estate tax due, not even a penny!!! There is an unlimited marital deduction, regardless of the size of the estate.

Do some research next time.

Yes, but some of the Democrats will tell you it is necessary to prevent an aristocracy. Of course, the problem is, as you say, that it does not destroy the estates of the truly wealthy.......

The concept of Estate taxes are steeped in true socialism. The sole purpose of estate taxes is to keep wealthy families from passing wealth on from one generation to the other. It is strictly a wealth redistribution program.

It is grossly unfair (a word not in the Democratic dictionary) and even if it never affects me and helps only the wealthiest of families, I would still be for it's abolishment on the basis of fairness. It's all such a fraud, people get around it anyhow by buying insurance which is used to pay the taxes. Strange how life insurance proceeds are not taxed but if all a man had to leave his family was his business, it would have to be sold to pay the taxes. It should not be that way. Sounds like the Dems were in bed with the Insurance industry when this law was passed.
