DuPont Photomasks revenues surpass $100 million in quarter

ROUND ROCK, Tex. -- DuPont Photomasks Inc. here today reported record revenues of $100.6 million in the fiscal quarter, ended Sept. 30. Revenues grew 36% from $74.1 million in the same period last year. The supplier of photolithography masks to chip makers 0osted a net income of $10.7 million vs. $6.6 million in the quarter last year.

"Photomask demand is driven principally by new design activity, which is gaining momentum in all regions," said Peter Kirlin, chairman and chief executive officer of DPI. "Additionally, our growth is being fueled by our customers' ramp of new advanced steppers and scanners, which utilize the most advanced photomask products, resulting in higher average selling prices and margins."

During the quarter, DPI revenue from mask sets supporting 0.18-micron and below design rules grew nearly six times compared last years shipments. The deep-submicron reticle revenues now account for about 25% of the company's revenues. DPI said it now expects fiscal 2001 revenue to grow 40% from sales in fiscal 2000, which ended June 30.

DPI's earnings per share of $0.58 beat Wall Street's consensus of $0.52, based on a survey of financial analysts by First Call/Thomson Financial.
