One of the more revealing questions last night came from the single, 34-year-old female with no kids. Basically, she was asking what the government was going to do for you. Mr. Gore, off the top of his head, rolled off a laundry list of government aid (read:welfare) and "targeted" tax cuts, if she could meet the draconian standards. He sounded more like a used car salesman than a candidate, "this government program will solve all your ills, get you a better job without hard work, help you lose 80 pounds, clear up your complexion and make you look like Cindy Crawford. Just vote for me!" Bush, on the other hand, stumbled over his tax cut and then rambled about world peace and all. Basically, he promised her nothing.

Now, as a taxpayer, I took one look at her and decided that I didn't really want to fund whatever whim Gore could come up with to supposedly make her life better. She was not poor, wheelchair-bound and could obviously hold a job under her own efforts. Was her life ideal? I doubt it, but she was the one who chose her own path. Everyone has their own troubles. My point is, that I do not want to be the one to fund the supposed improvement in the quality of her life.

That Mr. Bush, by his lack of promises, implied that she was on her own was to his credit. Voters should consider this before they pull the lever in November. Just my opinion, though.
