(ACC), a majority owned subsidiary of Audiovox Corporation (Nasdaq: VOXX - news) announced today it has signed an exclusive agreement with Standard Telecom Co., Ltd. (dba NIXXO) to market CDMA digital phones. During the 24-month agreement, Audiovox expects to sell a minimum of 750,000 of the company's wireless handsets throughout North and South America. The wireless handsets will be marketed under the Audiovox brand name. The first of two wireless phones included in the agreement is the CMP-3, a dual-mode CDMA handset with built-in MP-3 player and web browsing capability. The highlight of the CMP-3 is the MP3 player that enables consumers to download and play MP3 music files directly from a personal computer. The dual-mode CMP-3 operates on the 800 MHz CDMA and Amps frequencies. The phone is WAP-enabled and offers other cutting edge features such as two-way short-message service, voice recording and speaker phone capabilities, 20 ring tone selections, calendar, enhanced phone book which stores 200 names and 400 phone numbers, and one-touch dialing. Compact and lightweight, the CMP-3 weighs less than four ounces. Standard configuration of the CMP-3 includes handset, 870mAh lithium ion battery, travel charger and wrist strap. The 16MB and 32MB flash memory cards (which store the music) will be sold as optional accessories. Other optional accessories include 1400mAh lithium ion battery, cigarette lighter charger, cigarette lighter hands-free, hands-free car kit, earphone microphone, data interface cable and leather bag.
