I saw AS's post about his "coughing friend", who I'm sure is angling for a spot in a Gore ad and some government benefits...and just had to tell you this...

I'm talking to my son who lives in Houston (and downtown at that-- He attends Rice) and he is there RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT AS I TYPE!! AND HE IS BREATHING!

I said are you sure? Because I understand that people are coughing and gasping from the sulphur in the air and if you look out the window you may see their bodies in the street.
He said, "Don't worry, mom, I'm doing well since that third lung transplant last semester, and I only had to replace my biotechnology -enhanced throat filter twice this month."

He then said that "he was bothered by gore's claims that houston just became the most polluted because it's simply false. "Houston recently surpassed LA in one of seven chemical pollution indices; LA still holds the other titles, and is by far the worst in the nation."

Not only that, but I also coincidentally just got back from lunch with a friend who drove up from Houston and she was breathing just fine, and I even asked.

My son has allergies and asthma, and they have been no worse since he moved to Houston. HOuston certainly DOES have pollution problems, but I think AS has gotten just a tad melodramatic in his attempts to characterize it as a city filled with people needing gasmasks to function.

My son was kidding about the lung transplant, in case you were worried.

The very name "Houston" is onamatapoetic for a cough
