Jim, as you know this problem has been on-going for over 3 years and AMD continues to accept too little and too late from VIA and others. It would appear that the AM640/VIA problems of 3 1/2 years ago would have served as an adequate wake-up call.

I guess it's also important to remember that AMD 750 chipsets fueled the first K7 launch.

Jim,

RE: I was POed about it 6 months before Athlon was even released.

It looks as though Craig Barrett is POed that Intel ever got into bed with Rambus!

Intel's Barrett calls Rambus alliance a mistake; Intel now looking at DDR

semibiznews.com

Intel Corp. chief executive Craig Barrett now calls his company's relationship with Rambus Inc. "a mistake," according to a report published today.

[...]

Barrett went a step further today, in an article published by the Financial Times of London. "We made a big bet on Rambus and it did not work out," Barrett admitted. "In retrospect, it was a mistake to be dependent on a third party for a technology that gates your performance."

[...]

Now when will Jerry admit that relying so heavily on VIA for chipsets was a mistake? It looks as though AMD can't count on Rambus holding P4 sales down forever.
